Need help with Wordpress
Hello Readers,
Its once again my turn to ask for help. This time, it is regarding the Wordpress installation and problems that I have been facing with permanent links (permalinks in Wordpress parlance), since I have not been able to customize it to my liking. I have version 2.0.4 of Wordpress installed on Godaddy's linux hosting package.
As you can see, I have a lot of posts and under a few categories on my Astrology blog. When it comes to category links, a trailing slash at the end of the URL is making a lot of difference. i.e. for the category link:
http://www.planetarypositions.com/notes/category/astronomy/
if I remove the last slash and then refer to the URL as follows:
http://www.planetarypositions.com/notes/category/astronomy
Then Apache returns an error of 404 and the page does not appear at all. I suspect it is a problem/bug in the Godaddy's wordpress installation. I searched on the net and found out the following thread on the wordpress support site:
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/81515?replies=6
I have also been playing around with the .htaccess file under the notes folder. As of now, the exact text of this file is:
# BEGIN WordPress
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /notes/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /notes/index.php [L]
RewriteRule ./category/(.*)[^/]$ ./category/$1/ [L]
</IfModule>
# END WordPress
Any ideas?

Supreme Court Rules!
We need to kick these politicians out completely. What right did they have in asking for clemency for Mohammad Afzal? None of the politicians died in the parliament attack of 12/13. The people who died where policemen who were doing their duty.
Also, what right do they have to comment on the judicial process? There was a fair trial and the court found the person guilty. It punished him to be hanged... thats the law of the land and it must be respected. Period. How can we forget that our country nearly went on having a war with Pakistan after this incident.
Good article in TimesofIndia.com - "Considerations of religion, caste or political loyalty are irrelevant and fraught with discrimination"
No military rule, no democracy... we need Supreme Court rule in this country.

Date of Expiry?
I travelled from Bangalore to SF over the weekend and a very funny incident happened at the airport. The Singapore Airlines folks were distributing a form to everyone who was going to the USA. It was mandatory to fill out that form with an ominous "Homeland Security" cited as the reason.
- Name of the traveller
- Passport number
- Date of birth
- Date of expiry
I was zapped looking at questions numbered 3 and 4. I pointed to a Singapore Airlines official that I do not know my date of expiry :-) She asked me to fill the details of the passport there. Then I pointed out that my passport was issued and not born and it did not have a date of birth :-D. The person just looked at me, could not even smile and walked away.
